RIO VERDE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) — Rural Fire Metro and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office are investigating after a woman and several birds were found dead after a fire burned through a car and travel trailer.

Firefighters say a travel trailer and car caught fire near Rio Verde Drive and 140th Street around 1:45 a.m. A 911 caller told dispatchers that they believed one person was inside the trailer. Fire crews found the trailer and an SUV in flames when they arrived. The fire was moving toward a small shed nearby, so Rural Metro says they had to use a defensive fire strategy to protect livestock and ATVs close by. Crews were able to put the fire out.

During a search, they found an unidentified woman and several birds that were reportedly in cages. MCSO investigators are looking into what led up to the fire.
