Armed suspect shot by officers after walking into Phoenix 7-Eleven, police say

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- Police say a suspect is in critical condition after he walked into a Phoenix convenience store while armed, leading to police shooting him on Thursday night. According to Sgt. Vincent Cole with Phoenix police, around 7:30 p.m., officers received a call about a man with a gun at a home near 31st Avenue and Greenway Road. Police say the man left the home with the gun, and a gunshot was heard shortly afterward.

Officers tracked the man to a 7-Eleven near 24th Avenue and Greenway Road, just off Interstate 17. Officers tried to give the man commands, but he didn’t listen. Cole says the armed man walked into the 7-Eleven with customers inside, and police shot him. Officers then got the man out of the store and he was taken to the hospital in critical condition. No officers or customers were hurt.

This is the 50th officer-involved shooting in Maricopa County and the 78th in the state in 2022.

No officers were hurt in a shooting involving police at a Phoenix 7-Eleven on Thursday.
