Arizona Cardinals clinch first playoff berth since 2015
GLENDALE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -- After a rough couple of games for the Arizona Cardinals, things are finally looking up for Kyler Murray and company. With a bit of help from fellow divisional opponent, the Los Angeles Rams, the Cardinals clinched their first playoff berth since 2015.
After three weeks of failed attempts to clinch a playoff berth with losses to the Rams, Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts, the Cardinals finally earned a spot after the Rams win over the Minnesota Vikings 30-23 on Sunday. However, the Cardinals fell to second in the NFC West, with the Rams pulling ahead of the Red Birds after the win.
The playoff berth marks the first time the Cardinals have been in the playoffs since 2015. Many Cardinals fans will remember the 2015 season, where the Cardinals made it to the NFC Championship game before falling to the Carolina Panthers, led by Cam Newton.
The Cardinals join the Rams, Buccaneers, Packers, and Cowboys in the NFC playoff berth, with the hometown team sitting at a five-seed spot. The team can still seal the division with back-to-back wins the last two weeks of the regular season and need at least one Rams loss.
The Red Birds will look to turn things around next Sunday, taking on the Dallas Cowboys at 2:25 p.m., then finish the regular season at home against the Seattle Seahawks on Jan. 9.
